Canada, Ottawa | N. America | 2009

In Canada, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is held each year on Wednesday after World Day, this year on 18th November.

In 2008, the following information was on the Transport Canada’s website:

Canada will observe its first National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims. This event will be held every year, on the Wednesday following the third Sunday in November, which is the World Remembrance Day.

Canada’s National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims raises awareness of road safety and promotes ways to prevent road traffic injury and death on our roads. Each year, the Day of Remembrance will have a particular road safety theme to emphasize road safety areas needing improvement.

World Day 2009

In 2009, the Canadian Global Road Safety Committee with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators have launched an interactive website, intended to commemorate those who have been affected by a tragedy on the roads. On this website people can pay a tribute to someone they've lost, or whose life has been forever changed as the result of a tragedy on the road. This website also contains other information on road safety and the activities organized for this day throughout Canada.

We will remember our lost or injured family members, and friends and fellow Canadians who have been affected by road crashes, in an official ceremony at Algonquin College in Ottawa, on November 18th. This ceremony will help raise awareness of the number of deaths and injuries on Canadian roads and remind us of the importance of road safety.
