youth task force minor change… major effect… www.freshindian.org
World day of remembrance for road traffic victims Events for the year 2009 From global remembrance to global action... Event 1: (Coimbatore)
Uyir kakka oru nimidam… (Just a minute to save life…)
Youth task force initiated a road safety education program by conducting Driver knowledge test in association with Indian oil corporation, Radio Mirchi & Polimer TV. Road accidents can be prevented at large by educating the fundamentals of road & vehicle usage. Accident research conducted at Coimbatore a couple of years before by Youth task force & Road safety resource center has helped to realize the need for road safety education and the education material. The same resulted in the compilation of India’s first book titled “Traffic Signs & Science”. This voluminous compilation is now being delivered to mass through this contest.
Driver knowledge test competition:
30 prominent IOC petrol bunks carry a flex banner containing one traffic education question. The question will be on display for one week and the same will be displayed with answer for one more week to ensure that all visitors gain knowledge. The answer sheets will be made available in the petrol pump which is to be filled up by the participants. They can also answer through IVRS and SMS to reach the Radio mirchi FM station. Polimer TV is also covering the event by recording the answers.
Prize:
Every fortnight 3 winners will be selected and rewarded with a free fuel card worth Rs.500/-, Rs300/-, and Rs,200/- in each petrol bunk.
This project is being dedicated to the victims of road crashes to mark ‘The world day of remembrance for road traffic victims’ to be held on the Nov 15th 2009.
Event 2: (Chennai) International road crash victim’s day (3rd Sunday) (Nov 15th 2009) A road crash cause three shades of darkness namely trauma, disability and death. Youth task force appeals to the friends and family members of the crash victims, disabled and the crash survivors to stand united and express their concern for human safety on vehicle dominant roads.
Torch light campaign:
All concerned humans, students, victims and volunteers shall assemble in the Besant Nagar beach by 6 pm and turn on torch lights from 7 pm to 9 pm. The torch lights are meant to reflect the status of the victim. (Red for fatal, Amber for Disability, Green for Trauma) The color conversion can be made possible using transparent color sheets. (Public shall bring the torch light, new batteries, color sheets and flowers)
When the public mass comes together to light the torches, the beach will not only reflect the quantum of the victims but also the nature and depth of the injury. This is the feedback the rest of the road users need, to learn from the past. (Short films will be screened about true incidents of road crash victims to keep the participants engaged. Separate stage is being provided to offer flowers to the deceased victims)
Note: Usage of any light is restricted near Light house. At Chennai, the event shall be conducted only in Besant Nagar beach. Victims from other region are requested to contact us for identifying suitable avenues.
