![]() Remember road victims on World Day with a Light - especially between 6 - 8pm This initiative involves the burning of a light (candle or other light, even switching on of cell-phones or torches) and the illumination of houses, porches and civic buildings - in memory of a road victim and all road victims worldwide – on the World Day of Remembrance - from 6pm to 12 midnight - and especially between 6-8pm. For maximum impact, this initiative would need to be publicised widely - locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, esp. by the media and celebrity supporters. This Initiative, launched on World Day 2007, was suggested and promoted by the French road victim organization Esperanza, who achieved both the illumination of houses, gardens and balconies in their city – Port-Saint-Louis du Rhone, and that of public buildings. On World Day 2007, Esperanza organized a symbolic transfer of light (recorded on video) from Europe (Italy) to America (Mexico). www.esperanza-fr.org The theme of ‘Light of Hope’ was also used in the universities of Mexico City, who held conferences in the week leading to Remembrance Day, with a lit candle transferred from one university to the next as a symbol of this initiative. For more information – Archive 2007 Europe France and www.esperanza-fr.org The European Federation of Road Traffic asked all organizations under its umbrella to send out the message in their countries and to invite the help of the local and national media to publicise this initiative. In Italy, many civic buildings were illuminated, including the capitol in Rome, which is mentioned in the report on events in Italy – Archive 2007 Europe Italy
The ‘Light of Hope’ initiative will spread more widely with every year – the help from the media and celebrity supporters is invited and will be greatly welcomed. |
